The general requirements for pre-university studies, certificate, diploma and bachelor’s degree programmes at public universities are:

2 Diploma Programmes School leavers with SPM qualification, minimum of 5 credits
3 Bachelor’s Degree Programmes • Post-secondary school leavers with STPM qualification
• Post-secondary schools leavers with STAM (SijilTinggi Agama Malaysia) qualification
• Post-secondary schools leavers with Matriculation Certificate from the Ministry of Education or 'Program Asasi' qualifications from public universities
• Holders of recognised diploma qualifications [English Language Requirement: a minimum of Band 1 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET)]

Scholarship

Students with excellent results who plan to enrol in public or private universities and private colleges can apply for scholarships. Scholarships for higher education institution students include Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Sin Chew Daily Education Fund, The Star Education Fund, the NST-MAPCU Scholarship, and Petronas Scholarship. Some universities/ colleges provide scholarships for students by waiving their tuition fees.



Financial aid

Financial aid to students facing financial difficulties funding their tertiary education comes in the form of education loans.The National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) and The Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) Education Fund are loans provided by government agencies, whereas the Kuok Foundation is an example of education loan offered by the private sector. Another form of financial aid is the Employees Provident Fund (EPF Account II) Withdrawal Scheme for Education Financing.
